چکیده
We developed an application for learning the finger alphabet of Swiss German Sign Language. It consists of a user interface and a recognition algorithm including the Kinect sensor. The official Kinect Software Development Kit (SDK) does not recognize fingertips. We extended it with an existing algorithm. Synthesizing the finger alphabet of Swiss German Sign Language and evaluating the comprehensibility of the resulting animations
This paper reports on work in synthesizing the finger alphabet of Swiss German Sign Language (Deutschschweizerische Gebärdensprache, DSGS) as a first step towards a fingerspelling learning tool for this language. Sign language synthesis is an instance of automatic sign language processing, which in turn forms part of natural language processing (NLP). The contribution of this paper is twofold: ...
متن کاملPersian sign language detection based on normalized depth image information
There are many reports of using the Kinect to detect hand and finger gestures after release of device by Microsoft. The depth information is mostly used to separate the hand image in the two-dimension of RGB domain. This paper proposes a method in which the depth information plays a more dominant role. Using a threshold in depth space first the hand template is extracted. Then in 3D domain the ...
متن کامل“It’s Practically a Must”: Neoliberal Reasons for Foreign Language Learning
This qualitative study analyzes the reasons of college students for learning English as a foreign language (EFL) in Costa Rica and the reasons of high school students for learning German as a foreign language (GFL) in the US. It asks to what extent the learners’ reasons align with or deviate from neoliberal discourses that commodify foreign languages. The analysis of 27 interviews in a US high ...
متن کاملThe recognition of finger-spelling alphabets for Chinese sign language
As a primary component of Chinese Sign Language(CSL), finger-spelling language plays an important role in deaf education and their communication. With the help of spelling rule, the system that can recognize the alphabet flow can understand and interpret CSL. So in this paper the method of effective frame extraction is proposed and used to eliminate the transition frames in the alphabet flow. A...
